LOTUS ELITE WITH HYBRID OPTION SCHEDULED FOR SPRING 2014 DEBUT

Car aficionados got their first glimpse of the 2014 Lotus Elite Hybrid at the Paris Auto Show on September 20, 2010. Lotus is the latest luxury car company to join the green movement with the unveiling of this new design. The British auto manufacturer, famous for its racing and sports cars, debuted the Elite along with some tentative specs. Boasting 620 PS and a 5.0 V8 engine, this model is scheduled for release in Spring 2014.

This is a logical move for Lotus, since last year the CEO expressed an interest in moving forward with engineering electric cars. With the ability to go from 0-100 kmh in about 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 315 kmh, this model will strike a balance between superior performance and environmental consciousness. This is just one of many steps toward greener technology for Lotus.

The manufacturer is setting out for this model to become the new epitome of "modern classic". Featuring a retractable hard top and many other features that have made Lotus famous for its sleek sports cars, combined with a hybrid engine, this model is sure to please racing fans looking for a car that reconciles aesthetic appeal with lower emissions. There will also be a KERS (Kinetic Energy Recycling System) for the hybrid model, already featured in many other luxury cars.

The weight and price are two factors that might shock loyal Lotus fans, however. Pricing is expected to start at £115,000, placing it in a higher bracket than today 's Lotus models that cost, on average, about £45,000. Lotus's image of lightweight performance cars also goes out the window with the Elite weighing in at about 1650 kg.

In spite of this, the British carmaker plans to start manufacture in early 2014, which allows time for change if they deem it necessary. Overall, however, the hybrid option is a significant step forward for this performance car company.
